THE AFRICANYON STORY

SHARING THE ADVENTURES

An avid adventurer and explorer by nature, founder, Rogan Hindmarch, discovered this river route and shared it with his sons and friends for many years.

He brings to the team over 10 years of Mountain Search and Rescue experience and over 30 years rock climbing experience.

AfriCanyon River Adventures was formed to share this dynamic multipart canyoning or kloofing route; situated in the hidden valleys of The Crags, near Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route, it is a real hidden gem.

Rogan Hindmarch and Grant Rosin, at the helm, ensure an epic adventure. Something out-of-the-ordinary. The AfriCanyon Team will guide you through this unique outdoor adventure, with safety top priority.

AfriCanyon’s Senior Guides have attained accredited Canyoning qualifications and as Grant explains: “we put into practice a series of safety protocols and our teams training is refreshed refined and refreshed again and again – we strive to maintain our resolve of offering the best experience”.

We welcome All Levels of Adventurer. Whether you have done this type of thing before or are a complete novice, with AfriCanyon you can!

SOCIAL & ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

AfriCanyon has adopted a ”Custodian-ship” approach of the natural environment through which we traverse. Our policy it to take memories, (and remove trash found) and leave only footprints.

The river is cleared from plastic, rubber, car parts, glass, styrofoam floats and other items found- each item carried out by hand.

In the winter months we endeavor to implement an alien-clearing program together with the assistance and advice of local NGO’s and role players.

We see a real need to address the lack of direction in the youth in our local communities, Kurland Village and Covey.  Our future plans, incorporate the abseil and climbing tower and include a social climbing club as well as a more formalized “course”. Creating a program where we develop skills to a certain level and then assist in finding sponsorship for formal accreditation. The Kurland Climbing Club community up-liftment project’s objective is to expose the youth to climbing and abseiling.  We hope to encourage and enthuse individuals to develop an interest and develop a skill- set that will enable them to achieve goals beyond the restrictions of their current surroundings.

Developing climbing, rope access and abseiling skills opens up possibilities to further a career path in tourism, high-line access work and rope access work.

If you are interested in sponsoring a young adult or would like additional information please email: Kaarin@africanyon.com. We are determined and committed to make a difference.
